The Department of Environmental Science was established in 2009 in Yogi Vemana University with the main objective of developing innovative solutions to different environmental problems existing in Rayalaseema region specifically in YSR District. The department has four faculty members from diversified research fields like Environmental Biotechnology, Environmental Chemistry, Biodiversity studies and Forest Ecology with Dr.T.Chandrasekhar as the Coordinator. Department of Environmental science is offering M.Sc course as well research programs (Ph.D) and first batch M.Sc constitutes sixteen students.
The department is equipped with advanced laboratory facilities. The successful out-going post-graduates can find career choice such as environmental scientist in public & private sectors, environmental chemist in industrial sector & in pollution boards, environmental researcher in academic institutions & in research institutions, teaching position in engineering college as well universities etc. The faculty members are also active in research and are receiving funds from various government agencies to conduct R&D projects.

Achievements :
Dr.T.Chandrasekhar was awarded ‘Young Scientist’ in 2nd International seminar on Medicinal Plants & Herbal Products organized by Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupathi in Dec. 2010.

1. Removal of phosphate & nitrate in waste water by adsorption method- Agri-Science Project granted by the Dept. of Commerce & Industries, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh
2. Evaluation of phytoremediation potential of native plant species for chromium, nickel, cobalt and zinc contaminated soil- Fast track young scientist project submitted to the DST.
