The Department of Chemistry one of the prestigious departments of Yogi Vemana University was started at erstwhile S.V.U.P.G. Center, Kadapa in 1979 and actively engaged in the teaching and advanced research. The department is well equipped with infrastructure such as good laboratory facilities, instrumentation center, departmental library and internet facilities. Highly qualified faculty with wide exposure in the advanced fields of research of this department is training the students to improve their academic curriculum and awareness to the needs and aspirations of the society through theoretical concepts and experimental evidences. Along with, few academic consultants with well versed experience in PG teaching are also playing good role in the academic achievements of the department.
The curriculum is designed keeping in view of the contemporary developments in chemical sciences. It includes Inorganic, Organic, Physical, Analytical and Spectral related topics. Department has also established P.C.Ray Chemical Society, which actively involving in academic as well in welfare activities of students to improve them in all respects. With all these merits Department of Chemistry become academically very strong and achieving the goals time to time. Number of students of the department are qualifying national tests like CSIR/UGC and GATE ect. for every academic year.
On the basis research expertise and activities the Department attracted several funding agencies viz., Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), and Indian Association of Nuclear Chemists and Allied Scientists (IANCAS) etc.
Students who studied Chemistry have multiple job opportunities in Pharmaceutical and Chemical companies and in educational institutes of all levels. Students can also persue interdisciplinary research in various universities and Institutes like IISC, IITs, IICT, CDRI, CCMB, NCL and CSIR labs.
