Research Focus :
Description of Research work:
Next to wafer type Si-based solar cell technology, devices based on chalcogenide thin film technologies, such as CdTe and CuInGaSe2 (CIGS) are commercially successful and economically viable. At present, the power production capacity reaches GW range using these technologies. The future scarcity of heavy metal, Cd and non-abundant elements like In, Ga and Te presents a major barrier towards meeting the multi-terawatt-scale target through current thin film photovoltaics. In this context, my group is presently focuses on the development of low cost and environmentally benign absorber materials, Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS), SnS, Cu2SnS3 (CTS) as possible candidates for future thin film PV applications.
